Pence: Election is 'choice between two futures'
Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence on Wednesday rallied voters at a north Raleigh event, but he made no mention of the 2005 video of Donald Trump that has caused controversy over the past week.
Posted — UpdatedA video in which Trump was heard making lewd comments about women with then “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush has caused numerous Republicans to withdraw their support of Trump over the past week, and some questioned whether Pence would continue to remain on the ticket.
During the 35-minute speech, Pence described Trump as a fighter and a winner who “embodies the spirit of the country.” In contrast, he said Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will offer a continuation of the policies seen under the Obama administration and “embodies the failed status quo.”
“This election is not so much a choice between two people. It’s really a choice between two futures,” Pence said.
Pence said that a Trump administration would focus on prosperity, security for citizens and law enforcement officers and rebuilding the American military.
Pence said Trump will cut taxes for working families, small businesses and family farms and will lower business taxes. He also promised a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and health care reform that lowers the cost of health insurance.
“We’re going to do it the American way by unleashing the free market economy to meet our insurance needs,” he said.
