Pence aide cancels lobbying contract ahead of ban

Posted November 28

— A key aide to Vice President-elect Mike Pence canceled a lobbying contract with the state of Indiana days before Donald Trump's transition team announced a hiring ban on registered lobbyists.

A lobbying disclosure filed Nov. 14 indicates Joshua Pitcock canceled a contract that paid him $23,000 a month to be the sole Washington lobbyist for the state of Indiana, where Pence has been governor.

Trump's transition team announced two days later it will prohibit transition advisers and incoming officials from working as registered federal or state lobbyists.

Pitcock was chief of staff to Pence when Pence served in Congress. Pitcock was hired under contract to lobby for Indiana after Pence took office as governor in 2013.

Pence spokesman Matthew Lloyd confirmed that Pitcock canceled his lobbying contract.
