Pedestrian taking photos struck by train in Rocky Mount

A pedestrian taking photos was hit by a CSX train on Friday in Rocky Mount, according to a company spokeswoman.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A pedestrian taking photos was hit by a CSX train on Friday in Rocky Mount, according to a company spokeswoman.

CSX officials said the person was struck around 8:15 a.m. along the railroad track at the W. Goldleaf Street crossing. The pedestrian, Charles Danquan Sturdivant, was taken to a local hospital and later discharged with minor injuries.

Officials said Sturdivant and three other people were near the tracks during the incident.

Sturdivant, Johnny Jones, Kaleb Staton and Danielle Edmondson were all charged with second degree trespassing, authorities said.

Train traffic through the area was temporarily suspended while authorities investigated the incident. Normal train operations resumed by 9:30 a.m.
