Pedestrian struck in Person County

A pedestrian was flown to Duke University Hospital Saturday morning after he stepped into the road and was hit by a vehicle in Person County, according to the sheriff's office.

ROUGEMONT, N.C. — A pedestrian was flown to Duke University Hospital Saturday morning after he stepped into the road and was hit by a vehicle in Person County, according to the sheriff's office.

Troopers say the man was arguing with a woman inside a car, got out and stepped into the road around 5 a.m. near U.S. Highway 501 and N.C. Highway 57, north of Rougemont.

The man, whose name was not released, suffered a broken pelvis, had injuries to his lower extremities and was undergoing surgery, troopers said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the man will not be charged, troopers said. No other information was released.
