— An 18-year-old man was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries late Thursday after being hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Jones Franklin Road and Crossroads Boulevard in Cary, police said.

Mohamed Farhan, of Raleigh, was listed in critical condition early Friday.

According to investigators, Farhan was in the crosswalk about 10 p.m. when he was hit by a PT Cruiser driven by 22-year-old Kelsey Pittman, of Apex.

It wasn't clear if charges would be filed in the wreck, and police did not release more information about how Farhan was hit.

Authorities closed the roadway from Centerview Drive to Dillard Drive while they investigated.

For all that are stating that the driver was not paying attention. First of all, the crosswalk they are referring to is at the intersection of Jones Franking and Crossroads Blvd. The crosswalk is on the other side of the light/intersection from where she was coming from. If it was 10pm at night and she had a green light, why would she be at fault if someone is standing in the middle of the road. I work right down from here and the skid marks on the road have been outlined in orange. They start right at the intersection and go all the way through it to the crosswalk..in the middle of the lane.
I'm not saying she is not at fault, maybe she ran a red light, maybe she was speeding. But i go through this intersection every day. Just because you have a crosswalk, does not give you the right to go whenever you see fit, especially when it is at a light. You still have to abide by the walk/don't walk signals that are there for you.

There are crosswalks in downtown Raleigh also. Drivers are required to stop if a pedestrian is crossing the street ( eg: Wilmington street ). They rarely stop as required to allow folks crossing the right of way. Drivers seem to be oblivious of the rules of the road these days.

I am not implying that this case in Cary resulted from indifference or lack of attentive driving.

There are crosswalks on all four corners, so not sure what the issue is other than drivers not yielding to pedestrians.

I hope the pedestrian recovers! I will say this on behalf of the girl who hit him......she did not panic and flee the scene like a lot of others would do whether they be 18 or far older. She was responsible enough to stay and cooperate with police. Good for her.

Hope he recovers quickly and fully.

Unfortunate. Someone raised an issue of this exact intersection recently on Seeclickfix.

Maybe the city should give special consideration to safety related issues brought up by citizens. It's sad that those issues are now predicting news stories.
