Pedestrian killed on I-95 in Halifax

A Roanoke Rapids woman was killed early Saturday on the exit ramp of Interstate 95 in Halifax, according to the state Highway Patrol.

HALIFAX, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids woman was killed early Saturday on the exit ramp of Interstate 95 in Halifax, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Shortly before 2 a.m., a pickup truck exiting southbound I-95 at mile marker 171 hit Symanthia McWilliams Pierce, 43, killing her. 

Troopers said Pierce's car had broken down on the north side of the interstate and she was trying to cross to the other side.

Charges will not be filed against the pickup truck driver.
