Pedestrian killed in Raleigh wreck

Raleigh police on Tuesday identified a man who died after being hit by a vehicle Sunday night on a ramp to the Knightdale Bypass.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police on Tuesday identified a man who died after being hit by a vehicle Sunday night on a ramp to the Knightdale Bypass.

The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. Police said the driver of a 2009 Hyundai was exiting Interstate 440 and heading east on U.S. Highway 264 when he encountered the man in the roadway.

Robert Edwin Wiita Jr., of Worthington, Minn. 31, died of injuries he sustained after being struck by the Hyundai.

Raleigh police said no charges were filed against the driver.
