Pedestrian killed by car in Cumberland County

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Cumberland County Friday night, state troopers said.

HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Cumberland County Friday night, state troopers said.

An Oldsmobile Cutlass struck Anthony Barton, 59, of Spring Lake, as he walked along U.S. Highway 87 near Maranatha Circle around 9:15 p.m., troopers said.

The driver of the car was transported to a hospital as a precaution.  His name was not released.

Troopers said Sunday that Barton walked in front of the vehicle.  No charges will be filed.
