A driver who struck a pedestrian in Southern Pines died after he was struck by another vehicle, police said Monday

A driver who struck a pedestrian in Southern Pines died after he was struck by another vehicle, police said Monday.

The incident happened about 7:40 p.m. Sunday on West Morganton Road, near the intersection with South Henley Street. Southern Pines police said Tarsheia Wallace, 18, of Southern Pines, had been hit by a car driven by Robert Saunders, 40, of Pinehurst.

Following the initial crash, Saunders and Wallace were both hit by another vehicle driven by Kendall Fields, 20, of Southern Pines, police said.

Wallace and Saunders were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where Saunders died Monday morning from his injuries. Wallace was in serious condition.

Southern Pines Police Capt. Chuck Campbell said no charges have been filed.
