FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck while walking a road a few blocks from her home, police said.

Police said that Matthew Nobles, 30, was driving southeast on Stoney Point Road, near Dundle Road, around 7:40 a.m. Thursday when his 2002 Ford drifted off the right side of the road and struck Shirley Ann Schultz, 53, who was walking in the same direction.

The Ford hit a utility pole, chain link fence and vehicle parked at 7351 Stoney Point Road before stopping.

Schultz died of her injuries. Nobles was treated for minor injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Police haven't said what caused Nobles to drift off the road, and no charges have been filed.
