Pedestrian injured in Durham

Posted October 14, 2009

— A pedestrian was critically injured Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 70 near Lynn Road, police said.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. when Keith Lamont Small, 64, of Durham, was crossing U.S. 70 and stepped into the path of an eastbound 2004 Mazda driven by Douglas Lynn Turner of Durham, police said.

Turner’s view was obstructed by a vehicle in the adjoining lane, and he did not see Small, police said. Speed and alcohol didn't appear to be factors in the incident, according to investigators.

Small suffered critical injuries and was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Turner wasn't injured.

Investigators don't anticipate filing charges in the accident, police said.

The incident slowed traffic on U.S. 70 for more than an hour.

UNCalum05 and cth1, please go to a private blog where your little feelings won't get hurt. It goes on everyday. Where have you been?

I agree with UNCalum05!!! This isn't the time to be cracking jokes!! Geez!!

Prayers for the pedestrian AND the driver of the car! I know how hard it is to recover from hitting someone. I had someone run in front of my car 18 years ago and I still see the image of her hitting my car and feel the impact to this day. (and, no it wasn't my fault)

Deathrow, commando, and faceman... Its really mature to make a joke at this guy's expense. You must be really proud of yourself for coming up with or being amused with such clever comments. What if this man was someone you knew? It probably wouldn't be as funny to you then. But you know, there are other people who read your comments that do know this man. Praying that he fully recovers from this accident and for the driver to forgive himself for this accident.

There is a city bus stop at the intersection and its a very busy section in the morning. I drove past there shortly after it happened and there were police and police tape everywhere. did not look good.
