Pedestrian hit, killed by train in Burlington

A person was killed Saturday after stepping into the path of an Amtrak train as it approached the station in Burlington, officials said.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man was killed Saturday after stepping into the path of an Amtrak train as it approached the station in Burlington, authorities said.

The incident happened about 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Webb Avenue and North Mebane Street, as the Carolinian No. 79 was pulling toward the station. The train was en route from Raleigh to Charlotte.

Officials identified the victim as Reginald Jerome Clark, 26, of Baldwin Road, Burlington. No one else was injured.

The train was delayed for about an hour as emergency personnel investigated.
