Pedestrian dies in Raleigh accident

Police are investigating a car-pedestrian accident that claimed one person early Sunday on Western Boulevard.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A pedestrian died early New Year's morning after being struck by a car while crossing Western Boulevard near Carolina Avenue just about 2:45 a.m., Raleigh police said.

Officers withheld the victim's identity while they attempted to notify next of kin.

The pedestrian was crossing from the south side of Western Boulevard to the northern side when struck by a car going west, police said.

There were no immediate charges against the driver of the car. Officers were piecing together how the accident happened.
