Pedestrian dies after being hit by pickup truck in Fayetteville

A pedestrian died early Monday after being hit by a pickup truck on a service road adjacent to Gillespie Street, Fayetteville police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A pedestrian died early Monday after being hit by a pickup truck on a service road adjacent to Gillespie Street, Fayetteville police said.

Officers were called to the area shortly after 2 a.m.

Investigators said the pedestrian, identified as Rebecca Lynn Fields, 34, of the 300 block of Person Street, was walking along the road when she was hit by a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.

Fields was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, identified as Gary Michael Harris, 68, of the 200 block of Overton Road in Raeford, was uninjured.

No charges have been filed.
