PDQ Raleigh employees get creative with milkshakes

Posted June 17, 2014

Employees at the PDQ in Raleigh competed for a shot to have their milkshake recipe added to menu at all of the chain's locations.

— The Out and About team loves milkshakes, so I was thrilled to be asked to help judge an employee milkshake contest this morning at the PDQ off Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh.

Employees were competing for a chance to have their creation featured on the menu at all PDQ locations. Some of last year's winners - Rice Krispy Treat and Key Lime - have been successful seasonal additions!

Each of PDQ's 25 locations will submit one recipe to the corporate office in Florida. Out of those entries, only a few will actually make it to the menu.

The PDQ in Raleigh decided to let some local media help decide which flavor will represent their location.

Let me tell you, the competition was tough! All flavors were made with their vanilla ice cream.

Here were the flavors we had to choose from: Watermelon Sensation, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (yes, the cereal), Chocolate Mocha, Orange Creamsicle and Bananas Foster. PDQ

The winner was employee Andrea Twiss' Bananas Foster, which also contained brown sugar and vanilla extract. Twiss won a $50 gift card and a chance to see her shake on the menu. The corporate office will be making a decision by the end of July.

Chocolate Mocha (which had a great coffee flavor without any actual coffee being used in it) and Orange Creamsicle placed second and third. The creators also received gift cards.

If any of the competing flavors sounded good, you might have a chance to try one out. This week and next, the Raleigh PDQ will be featuring a different flavor of the day.
