Patient stabbed Nebraska Medicine employee while getting blood drawn

Omaha, NE — Police are now investigating how a patient was able to stab an employee at Nebraska Medicine.
According to a statement from officials at the hospital the incident happened around 8:30 Friday morning.
Hospital officials say Zacherey Dvorak, 38, a patient at the Lied Transplant Center, refused to have his blood drawn and attacked the employee with a weapon he had made from items found in the room. The employee, Meagan Strande, 30, is a phlebotomist.
Security staff and other employees were able to restrain Dvorak until Omaha police arrived.
Strande was taken to the emergency room where she was treated for a small cut on her face.
Police say Dvorak is facing charges including assault to a healthcare professional and using a weapon to commit a crime.
