Headed to NC State Fair? Here's how to get there and save on parking

The North Carolina State Fair has added a new parking lot with free shuttle service.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina State Fair has added a new parking lot with free shuttle service.

The Reedy Creek parking lot is located at the corner of Edwards Mill and Reedy Creek. There will be free shuttles running continuously from the lot throughout the duration of the fair. The drop off and pick-up location will be at Gate 8 on Trinity Road. The lot will be open Thursday, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Friday, Oct. 12, to Sunday, Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. until one after gates close.

Free parking is also available on State Fair, Carter-Finley Football Stadium and PNC Arena properties.

Fairgoers are encouraged to take Wade Avenue to the Edwards Mill Extension to park in these lots. There may be exceptions if events are scheduled at Carter-Finley or PNC Arena.

Recreational vehicles are not allowed to remain in the parking spaces managed by the State Fair between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m.

Other lots around the fairgrounds, including on private property, vary in price.

Fairgoers can skip the hassle and ride the bus right to Gate 1.
GoRaleigh is offering service to the fairgrounds from Cary Towne Center, Triangle Town Center and White Oak Crossing in Garner and Hillsborough Street daily.
Here's a breakdown of the GoRaleigh routes and pick up locations:
Triangle Town Center, 5959 Triangle Town Blvd, Raleigh (pick up near Dillard’s parking lot): This is a non-stop express shuttle from a park-and-ride location. To get to the parking lot, take I-540, Exit 17 for Triangle Town Blvd and follow the green State Fair park-and-ride signs to the parking lot near Dillard’s. This shuttle will run approximately every 30 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to midnight daily during the fair.
Cary Towne Center, 1105 Walnut St., Cary (pick up at the back of the mall, near aquatic center): This is also a non-stop express shuttle from a park-and-ride location at Cary Towne Center Shopping Mall. To get to the mall, take Exit 291 (Cary Towne Boulevard) from I-40. Follow the green State Fair park-and-ride signs. This shuttle will run approximately every 30 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to midnight daily during the fair.
White Oak Crossing, 1205 Timber Drive East, Garner (pick up is near movie theater): This shuttle runs Thursday through Sunday only. It is also a non-stop express shuttle from a park-and-ride location at Garner’s White Oak Crossing. To get there, from I-40, take exit 306 approaching from the West or exit 306A approaching from the East. Follow the green State Fair park-and-ride signs. Parking will be near the movie theater. This shuttle will run Thursdays through Sundays approximately every 30 minutes from 8:30 a.m. to midnight during the fair. Note: First Thursday service begins at 2 p.m.
Hillsborough Street Route: This route departs downtown at the NCDOT building on Wilmington Street, but it does have limited service. It runs Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to midnight and Saturday through Sunday 8 a.m. to midnight. Shuttle service is every hour. There is a special Monday through Friday shuttle at 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. from downtown for State Fair workers. There is free parking in downtown Raleigh in the state government lots bounded by Edenton, Wilmington, Jones and Blount streets.

GoPasses and prepaid GoRaleigh passes are not valid on State Fair shuttle routes.

The shuttle’s round trip fare is $5, cash only. One-way fare is $4. Children under 40 inches tall ride free with a paying adult. A reduced roundtrip fare of $2.50 will be available for people 65 and over and for passengers with disabilities. Shuttle tickets can be bought at the park-and-ride locations 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Exact change is required when paying on the bus (if the ticket booth is closed). Also, shuttle passes can be purchased at GoRaleigh’s Transit Operations Facility at 4104 Poole Road, just east of I-440, or at the GoRaleigh Station information booth downtown.

Heading from Durham? Shuttle service with GoDurham starts at 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 and runs through Oct. 21. Buses depart hourly from the Durham Station, 515 W. Pettigrew St. from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sundays.

The State Fair Shuttle uses a special pass that contains a round-trip (2 rides). State Fair Shuttle passes may be purchased at Durham Station or on the State Fair Shuttle. You may also pay a cash fare. Exact change required. Children ages 12 years and younger may ride for free, but those 13 years and older must pay $5. There is a discounted fares ($2.50) for those with who qualify. A GoDurham ID, Medicare card, or government-issued identification is required for discounted or free fares. Multi-day pass or GoPasses will not be accepted.

Heading from Chapel Hill or RTP? GoTriangle is offering Saturday and Sunday shuttle services.Pick-up locations are at UNC's Campus, South at Country Club Road (GOLIVE Stop #3430), and the NC 54 Park and Ride Lot off of Friday Center Drive past the Friday Center lot (GOLIVE Stop #3024). In the Research Triangle Park, shuttles will pick up at the GoTriangle Regional Transit Center, the 105 Bus Stop at RTC.
