Let's all hope this is the final Holiday Express post that I'll write in 2013.
Richard Costello, the city's amusements director, emailed me today with details about parking changes for tonight, the final night, of the sold out Holiday Express.
Holiday Express guests have been taking a free shuttle to Pullen from Hunt Drive, but wet conditions have made that impossible for today. There is not enough parking at Pullen to accommodate the Holiday Express crowd.
Here's what Costello told me:
"Due to the wet field conditions at the Dorothea Dix Hunt Drive location, we are asking our guests to park at the N.C. State University Cates Avenue Parking Deck. The parking deck is conveniently located right next to Pullen Park and a shuttle to the event will still be provided."
Here are directions to the Cates Avenue Parking Deck at N.C. State: From Western Boulevard, take Pullen Road. Turn left onto Dunn Avenue. Cates parking deck is on the left. Follow the walkway from the parking deck to the shuttle pick-up location.
Call 919-996-6468 for more information or with any questions.
Pullen Park could be especially busy tonight as people with tickets for Sunday and Dec. 8, when the event was canceled because of the weather, are able to go today. Click here for more information, including tips to avoid the crowds.
My family got there right at 4 p.m. on Friday and managed to not wait in any long lines. It's also typically slow from about 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. (easier said than done for many as it's a school night).
