Parents of infant arrested in Apex on child abuse charges

Posted May 27, 2010

— The parents of a 7-week-old were arrested on Thursday on charges of felony child abuse, Apex police said.

Darren Clark, 21, of 735 Reunion Ridge Way in Apex and Ashley Longmire, 20, of 1104 Falls Lane in Fuquay-Varina, are each charged with one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Child Protective Services contacted Apex police on Feb. 12 to report that the infant had a broken arm, past and present rib fractures and a fractured skull.

The child was immediately put into the CPS’ custody and has remained there since the injuries were reported.

Clark and Longmire were being held under $100,000 bonds in the Wake County jail on Thursday.

This is very sad. I have very little regard for people who hurt innocent children. I understand that they are young, but they should have sought help after the baby was born if they were feeling too overwhelmed. I hope they get what they deserve because that child didn't ask for any of the treatment he recieved.

They didnt get any help from their parents, maybe or thats why they are treating the baby that way, monkey see, monkey do..

Ounces - "Someone with the state needs to do their jobs!"

    Someone with the state DID.

They called the police who arrested the couple.

    God bless.

So, will their parental rights be immediately terminated? or will the state allow them to have the child back after they're "rehabilitated"? I'm so tired of seeing these stories of babies dying after YEARS of continued abuse!!! Someone with the state needs to do their jobs!

I know it would not be in print if it were not true....however I just find this hard to believe!
How in the hell could someone do this??? This is when people should be stelized ASAP ! with so many people in this world who cannot have children at all and people like this can....:( so unfair!
    I cry for that baby....

Sick, Sick, SICK!! These 2 should rot in prison. And I don't want to hear anything about how "the mother didn't know" or whatever excuse some family member will come up with. I have a 4 week old baby and reading this story makes me want to throw up!

  • Desiderata May 27, 2010

Unless the child had a medical problem with fragile bones.."osteogenesis imperfecta" may be the name, , this is uncalled for , and they need to be jailed/sterilized!

Can someone please explain to me why people who would do this to a 7 week old baby (or any child for that matter) can be locked up under $100K bonds and people who sell drugs to willing adults are locked up under $500K bonds or more? Where is the common sense in our judicial system??? There should be no bond at all here!
