Parent after Rolesville fight video: 'There are not enough adults in schools'

After another troubling video said to be from Rolesville High School circulated in the community, Mayor Frank Eagles called a meeting.

“What your kids are telling you, what you are seeing, come on- don’t be bashful. Let’s talk about what problems I am hearing,” he said.

The most recent video shows two boys involved in a fistfight. The footage appears to have been captured in a stairwell with other students watching on.

Some parents said fights like the one seen in the video happen often.

“Fights in the bathrooms, fights in the hallways, planned fights and knock-down drag out fights,” said parent Darcee Ruble.

“There are not enough adults in the schools to help with the behavioral things that are happening,” Ruble said.

Thursday’s meeting was intended to find solutions- perhaps more volunteers, mentors, counselors, cameras or efforts to reach out to the kids getting in trouble.

“Get the counselors involved. Pull these students aside, have peer mediation,” said Rolesville resident Lauren Arnold.

Community members agreed that Thursday’s meeting should not be the last. There are plans to have more formal meetings with officials at the school.

Wake County Public School System spokeswoman Lisa Luten said that the school is aware of the video and the students involved have been disciplined.

“Students should be aware this activity- both the act of fighting and watching the fight- is considered a breach of the student code of conduct and subject to disciplinary action,” the statement said.
