Paratrooper From Raeford Dies in Afghanistan

Fort Bragg, N.C. — An 82nd Airborne paratrooper from Raeford died of injuries in Bagram, Afghanistan, on Tuesday, the military announced.
Second Lt. Stuart Liles, 26, died from injuries sustained in a non-combat-related incident. Officers said that incident was being investigated, but did not describe it in any detail.
Liles served as a platoon leader for the 122nd Aviation Support Battalion.
He received a bachelor’s in Liberal Arts from the University of Central Arkansas and was commissioned into the Army’s Adjutant Corps in August 2006. He was placed with the 82nd in January 2007 and assigned to the 122nd ASB as its battalion adjutant.
Liles' awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Liles is survived by his wife, Aubre Liles; his daughter, Aurora Liles, both of Raeford; and his mother, Kristin Liles of Hot Springs, Ark.
