Ft. Bragg parachutist dies after Chicago air show accident
The Cook County medical examiner's office says a U.S. Army parachutist injured in the Chicago Air & Water Show has died.
Posted — UpdatedInvestigator Mario Johnson says that 32-year-old Corey Hood, of Cincinnatti, Ohio. was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Hood was a parachutist for the U.S. Army Golden Knights team. During an air show Saturday, Hood collided with a member of the U.S. Navy's Leap Frog Team, who was also injured. Witnesses said at least one of the men clipped the top of a high-rise apartment. The other man was treated for a broken leg.
A spokeswoman for the parachute team, Donna Dixon, didn't return a message seeking comment Sunday.
Earlier, she told the Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/1LfmuGW ) the parachutist had surgery to relieve pressure in his brain caused by a head injury and was in critical condition Sunday.
According to his biography, Hood had been a member of the Army for 10 years and has been awarded two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Awards.
