PINEHURST, N.C. — A proposed roundabout in Pinehurst has gotten a boost from a local zoning panel.

The Pinehurst Board of Adjustment voted to dismiss an appeal by residents trying to block the roundabout at N.C. Highway 2 and Carolina Vista Drive.

A group known as Concerned Citizens of Pinehurst said the project would harm the town's scenic and historic charm.

Reworking the entrance to the Pinehurst Country Club after the roundabout is installed would take out more than 90 trees, most of them longleaf pines, opponents said.

The group said it would appeal the ruling in a lawsuit in Superior Court.
