Pair steal Durham woman's life savings

The woman told investigators that a man came to the door of her home on Ashe Street on Monday and said he needed to take measurements in her living room and kitchen. The woman let him in because she had recently had some home renovations done and believed he was there to do additional work, police said.

The man distracted her for several minutes by asking her to help him, and investigators said they believe a second man went inside during that time to rob the home. The woman later discovered that a large amount of cash and her Social Security card were missing from her purse, police said.

One man was described as white with a tanned complexion, in his 50s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a heavy build. He was described as having a very large nose and was wearing older-style black frame glasses and a white fishing hat.

The second man was described as a tall, slender white man in his 40s, with gray hair in a flattop haircut.

The men were in driving a new black vehicle similar to a Dodge Dakota with chrome rims, a chrome tailgate and "TOSS" written in red on a fender. The vehicle might have had several large antennas.
