Pair sought in beating death of Fayetteville man

Posted August 29, 2012

— Police on Wednesday identified two men wanted in connection with the beating death of a Fayetteville man last week.

A fight broke out between Marcus Atherton, 36, and several people on School Street last Thursday afternoon, and Atherton then fled on foot towards Link Street, where he collapsed, police said.

He later died as a result of the blows he received during the fight, they said.

Police have issued arrest warrants for Dwight Dewey Bristol Jr., 22, of Lamon Street, and Tony Carl McGill, 41, no address available, on a charge of first-degree murder.

Anyone with information on either man's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.

Police said the case remains under investigation, and more people could be charged.

Thank you mgallen2. Do people not know that there are some things that are only going to come out in court. If you want to know every little detail, go to the trial.

Their all over the news today, take them out and we would not have a crime section.

What more information do you need AxMan and djofraleigh? A fight broke out on School St, victim was beaten, suspects fled the scene, and now suspects have been identified and warrants have been issued. Seems like a decent summary of events to me.

A first degree murder charge indicates premeditation (so not a random attack) and, at the end of the day, the reason for the fight and criminal histories are completely irrelevant. What matters here is that the FPD had substantial evidence to charge the suspects with murder. Use your brain a little before bashing the article.

It's nice that they already have mug shots of the perps. Wonder why they aren't in prison?

Oh, our justice system. I forgot.

What was the motive? Why did they fight? What are their histories? Is this random?
