Nags Head, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two men late Monday from a disabled, 46-foot sailboat in shallow water near the jetty at Oregon Inlet.
Towboat US notified Station Oregon Inlet shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday that the sailboat Palomar was disabled in water too shallow for them to respond, authorities said. A rescue boat crew from the station was also unable to reach the craft because of the shallow water.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City was dispatched and hoisted the two men, Mark Smith and John Krieger, off the boat, authorities said.
The men were taken to Station Oregon Inlet, where emergency medical personnel were waiting. EMS determined the men had no health issues, and the men did not request hospitalization.
The vessel was re-floated Tuesday by Towboat US, authorities said.
