DURHAM, N.C. — Police arrested two people late Thursday in connection with a Saturday night shooting on Chapel Hill Road in Durham that left one man dead and a second wounded.

Sherwin Bilal Archie, 18, of 801 Fargo St., and Darrius Lavale Tyson, 18, of 2920 Chapel Hill Road, were charged with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They were being held Friday in the Durham County jail without bond.

Bernardo Ponce, 33, died at the scene of the shooting, and Antoney Garcia Dominguez, 40, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of wounds that police said weren't life-threatening.

Deandre Roosevelt Rucker, 18, of Nebo Street, was arrested shortly after the shooting on charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. A 15-year-old also was charged in the shooting and was placed in the Durham County Youth Home.

State Department of Correction records show that both Tyson and Rucker were recently placed on probation.

Tyson was convicted of one count of larceny on Aug. 26. DOC records state that in 2009, he was convicted of six counts each of felony breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering, along with felony possession of stolen goods.

In June, Rucker completed a six-month jail sentence for a probation revocation, according to DOC records. He was given probation in 2009 after being convicted of felony larceny over $1,000, breaking-and-entering, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.
