Pair charged in Raleigh apartment shooting

Police charged two men Wednesday in connection with a shooting Tuesday afternoon at a north Raleigh apartment complex.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Police charged two men Wednesday in connection with a shooting Tuesday afternoon at a north Raleigh apartment complex.

Rutler Warren Strum Jr., 30, and Brandon Ross Joyner, 20, were each charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count each of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon.

Police responding to a reported shooting found Christopher Wheeler, 34, wounded in an apartment at The Gardens of Wynslow Park complex on Middle Oaks Drive. Barbara Thompson Carroll, 31, was hit with a baseball bat during the incident, police said.

Strum and Joyner were arrested near Roxboro by members of the Raleigh Police Department's Fugitive Unit and Person County deputies.

Strum also is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
