DURHAM, N.C. — Police have charged two men after a Monday afternoon chase in which a patrol car was rammed and an officer fired at a suspect.

Joshua Caleb Jones, 25, of U.S. Highway 70 in Hillsborough, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony larceny and attempted larceny.

Jason Daryoush Sakuei, 32, of University Station Road in Durham, was charged with attempted larceny and aiding and abetting larceny.

Officers were responding to a reported theft at the Home Depot store on North Pointe Drive on Monday when one of the suspected thieves jumped into a van, rammed the patrol car and drove off, police said.

The van crashed a short time later at the intersection of Duke and Corporation streets, and the driver was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment.
