Editor's Note: The charge against Jason Tingen was later dismissed because the witness was deemed unreliable. Jason Tingen's criminal record was later expunged, leaving no record of the charge.

An Oxford police officer is on paid suspension while Granville County authorities investigate an assault case involving the officer.

The sheriff's office said Thursday that the alleged assault happened Tuesday in Bullock.

The officer, Jason Tingen, 37, and another man, Douglas Tingen, 55, are listed as victims of a disturbance, according to an incident report.

The report says that a third man was a victim of an assault.

Saying it is an ongoing investigation, the sheriff's office declined to comment about the case and referred all questions to Granville County's district attorney.

The DA's office did not return a call seeking comment.

The relationship between the three men is unclear.

warrenhicks1967: just because you worked with the man doesn't mean you "know" the man. To do the damage that was done to the victim, this "great man" wouldn't have come close. The circumstances surrounding the assault is calculating and stupid. Our country, towns, and cities...are in the shape they are in because our officers are no better than the ones they try to arrest...Not all but most...I do hope the ENTIRE story comes out so everyone will see how childish and stupid this "great man" is...

two sides to every story ,only one told.why not cover both and reveal the whole truth . you know the story one bad seed can spoil another, where is justice when you need it

Tingen is a good family man that would go to the ends of the earth to help someone in need. It is so unfortunate that we would make this our 5oclock news. You really should have waited for the facts before covering this story. I know from experience one bad person can cause good people to suffer.

and i know for a fact that there was only one victim. the altercation was over a deer, i know stupid. but people these days really don't think before they act. but the truth will come out when its over. and when it does i will be glad to see that the right decision is made.

well i must say that there was only one victim in this altercation and im just ready for the whole truth to come out.

Onlyin America... I stand corrected it is indeed the 349. Thank you for correcting me.

  • OnlyInAmerica_82nd Nov 18, 2011

iamliamhardy.... with years of experience as a LEO you should know its the DMV 349 not 359. Close but the 359 is a completely different form.

iamliamhardy.. I've been praying about my personal feelings all day... but opinions are just that.. the facts should speak for themselves.. "evidence shows" "which would lead one to believe" "in all apperances" etc could be used instead of "my opinion" which obviously in our case let someone guilty of causing a death in a motor vehicle get off with nothing.. Dispite what you think, I hope WRAL does follow up on this and print the entire TRUTH, not the reporters opinion .

  • iamliamhardy Nov 18, 2011

kimstressed..no personal feelings here just years of experience as a LEO,where your opinion determines the severity as well as the charges in a criminal investigation, weather stated on a OCA report or a 359 DMV report, opinions and judgement does count. I am sorry for the loss of your sister and I pray that your family recovers, but in your first comment..your personal feelings and hopes for this officer were very apparent.

iamliamhardy... again, "opinions" do not belong in a factual report. his "opinion" was totally opposite of 2 separate independent insurance investigations. His written "opinion" resulted in a person being able to take another's life (a wife, mother of 3, daughter)and not having to answer for it because "the department would look bad", not my words, the DA's. I am talking facts... seems like you're the one letting your personal feelings get in the way here. Lets hope WRAL will follow this story and get the FACTS out so if he's cleared, he's also cleared in the media as well... That's all I wanted for my sister and it didn't happen because of A PERSONAL opinion. I too would hate for someone (even this officer) that's been made to look bad in the public not be able to be cleared in the public too.
