WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A driver speeding to elude arrest caused the crash that closed eastbound lanes of the N.C. Highway 98 Bypass (Dr. Calvin Jones Highway) in Wake Forest Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

The chase began in Franklin County where sheriff's deputies tried to arrest Skylar Steven Blackley, 20, of 108 Grayson Court in Knightdale. He fled, leading deputies ultimately to N.C. 98 in Wake Forest where local police joined the pursuit, Bill Crabtree, Wake Forest police spokesman, said.

Crabtree said Blackley was driving west in the eastbound lanes of N.C. 98 around 10 a.m., and the driver of a concrete-mixer truck had to swerve to avoid hitting him, and that truck tipped over.

The truck driver was taken to WakeMed with injuries that did not appear to be serious, Crabtree said.

The road reopened just after noon.

Blackley will face charges of speeding, running a red light, driving the wrong way on a dual lane highway and careless and reckless driving in addition to any charges from Franklin County.
