LUMBERTON, N.C. — The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Lumberton reopened Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer crash closed the highway overnight.

The truck overturned at the mile marker 20 after 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, according to the Robeson County Sheriff's Office. Southbound lanes of the highway were closed after the crash, and the road reopened around 8 a.m.

Hazmat vehicles were at the scene to clean up hydrofluoric acid, sodium hypochlorite and diesel fuel, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. Officials said the mixture created a chemical cloud in the immediate area near the accident scene.

DPS said no one was evacuated and there was no danger to the public.

The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, but officials did not know how badly the driver was injured.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
