Apex, N.C. — All northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 in Apex were closed early Wednesday after a dump truck overturned, blocking the roadway, authorities said.
The accident happened about 1:30 a.m. along the highway near the intersection with Friendship Road, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the truck's dumping mechanism unexpectedly went up, causing the truck to hit a bridge and flip on its side. Troopers don't believe the bridge was badly damaged.
The driver was taken to the hospital. Information on his condition was not immediately available.
The roadway reopened shortly after 6 a.m.
