Preschool graduation is happening across the Triangle this week - which means lots of preschoolers are starting their summer vacations right now. What to do? Why not hop aboard New Hope Valley Railway on Friday?
The railway, which typically offers rides on select weekends, will offer one of its weekday rides at 10:30 a.m., Friday. Tickets are $7 for kids and $10 for adults. The next weekday rides are scheduled for June 14 and June 23.
On Friday, you'll take an hour-long ride through the leafy countryside of rural southwestern Wake County. It's an open air ride (with no bathrooms), so be prepared. The railway also includes train cars you can walk through and a model train garden, complete with Thomas the Tank Engine, which kids love to check out.
On Saturday, the railway also will host the Brew ‘n’ Choo Bonsal Beach Party. The family-friendly event offers a train ride, along with food, craft beer, local wine and live music. A DJ will play popular beach music with games, prizes and giveaways with a live band to follow.
A beach-cookout menu including hotdogs, hamburgers, potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans will be available for purchase, according to the railway's website. Tickets for Saturday are $10 for kids and $12 for adults.
New Hope Valley Railway is in New Hill.
