Ounce of Pot: Man gets life in slaying over ounce of drug

Posted September 17

— A Charlotte man will spend the rest of his life in prison for a fatal shooting stemming from a drug deal over an ounce of marijuana.

The Charlotte Observer reports ( ) that 22-year-old Deon Quintin McDonald was convicted of first-degree murder and other counts on Friday. He was sentenced to life without possibility of parole.

He was convicted in the slaying of 18-year-old Azjee Rolanda Pierce on Halloween 2013. Another man was shot but survived.

Authorities say McDonald and a companion arranged to buy drugs and when they approached the car in which the victims were sitting, opened fire. They say McDonald made off with an ounce of pot.

His co-defendant, Harold Lindsey, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder and was sentenced to at least 32 years in prison.

He received a life sentence for murder not for the ounce of pot. Sounds like a drug deal that went well to me
