Orange dispatcher honored for help with bus stop birth
A 911 dispatcher in Orange County who helped instruct a woman how to deliver a baby at a Chapel Hill bus stop last month has been honored for his work.

Elizabeth Aguilera Lopez went into labor unexpectedly on Nov. 7 while at a bus stop at the corner of Cameron Avenue and Columbia Street. Passerby Emily Brewer called 911 for help, and dispatcher Tommy Holmes talked her through the delivery while paramedics were on their way to the scene.
"You will have those days when you'll have something that it doesn't go like you'd want it to or is going downhill when you get the first contact with it, and you try to do your best to help, but sometimes it doesn't," said Holmes, who has worked for Orange County Emergency Services since 2007. "It does make you feel good to have something turn out good."
Lopez, 28, named her daughter Emily to thank Brewer for her help.
