Hillsborough, N.C. — Orange County Manager Frank Clifton announced Thursday he plans to retire in September.
Clifton, who has served as county manager since 2009, said he’s looking forward to devoting more time to his family. His last day will be Sept. 29.
“Doing the public’s business is not without criticism. The intent always focused on the best interest of the whole county and its future,” Clifton said in his resignation letter to the Board of Commissioners. “Together we faced difficult issues, with actions leading to successful outcomes.”
The county manager is responsible for running the daily operations of the government. The board is on summer break and did not immediately announce plans to replace Clifton.
Clifton earns a salary of $164,424.
