CLINTON, N.C. — A driver was charged in connection with a wreck Saturday night in Clinton that killed her passenger.

Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Stephanie Hunter, 30, was intoxicated as she drove along Keener Road in Sampson County shortly after 7 p.m.

Hunter hit a sharp curve in the road and lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, troopers said.

Her passenger, 50-year-old Sharon Brayboy, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say she was pinned in the car and suffered serious head injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Hunter was taken to Sampson Regional Hospital for tests. She was later charged with felony death by a motor vehicle and driving while impaired.

Bond information was not immediately available.
