One Step Closer to Legal Backyard Chickens

Residents and officials in Tualatin, Oregon have been going back and forth over the issue of backyard chickens for almost four years. The city, located near progressive Portland, has been trying to reach a balance when it comes to implementing municipal codes that will accommodate the desire to keep chickens and the need to look out for health, safety, comfort, and humane conditions.

Finally, it looks like a resolution is close, and residents could be keeping their own cluckers as early as the New Year. Portland carpenters will undoubtedly see an uptick in business as Tualatin residents get ready to finally legally welcome chickens in their yards. Up to four hens can be legally kept under the measure, which specifies coop size, distance from neighbors, and other details.
