SMITHFIELD, N.C. — One sister died and another was injured early Tuesday in a car crash on Interstate 95 South near mile marker 93 in Smithfield.

Angelina Overton, 18, was driving with her sister, Jaclyn McDonald, 25, in the passenger seat, authorities said. They were driving from their home in Woodbridge, Va., to see family in Georgia.

Overton drove off the road to the left, hit the rumble strips, over-corrected, went off the road and hit a tree, troopers said. Overton died at the scene. Emergency crews took McDonald to WakeMed. She was expected to survive.

Both sisters were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol and speed were not factors, authorities said.
