— A Johnston County man was jailed Thursday after a fight with an acquaintance ended in gunfire.

Jesse Junior Sanders, 76, shot E.C. Nixon, 73, at his home at 2339 Strickland’s Crossroads Road Thursday afternoon, said Maj. Bengie Gaddis of the Johnston County Sheriff's Office.

The two men got in a fist fight at Nixon's house, then Sanders left and returned with a shotgun, injuring Nixon in the leg, Gaddis said.

Sanders was being held on $40,000 bond on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

A family member said Nixon was being treated at WakeMed for his injury.

Actually, I was just poking fun at those good ole boys over there in Johnston County. There really are some good people out that way. Even thought about buying a home out around the Cleveland area one time. And Sheriff Steve Bizzel is doing a good job with the budget he has to work with and don't forget about the other agencies too like Kenly, Selma, Smithfield, and can I mention Princeton too or is that on the edge of Wayne? Anyway, just wanted to show some love for Johnston County.

I loved your comment! I laughed out loud at my desk. I've lived in Johnston County my entire life. We really aren't all that different from other folks, or at least I don't think we are. Authorities here have had their hands full the past couple of weeks though, for sure! If I didn't know better, I'd just blame it on the darn HEAT! Thanks for the laugh.

It's never good to mess with the old dogs. They don't play when they get mad.

Yeah, I know, it is almost as bad as going to Wake or Durham County and trying to take some of their drugs!

T-Man/ Age doesn't matter. It's just in some people to be violent.
