One killed when car runs off road, hits tree in Fayetteville

A Fayetteville man died early Wednesday after a single-car wreck near the intersection of Rim Road and Castel Falls Circle, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man died early Wednesday after a single-car wreck near the intersection of Rim Road and Castel Falls Circle, police said. 

Officers responded to the area about 1 a.m. According to investigators, the car ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Benjamin Hunter Fortenberry, 24, was killed.

It wasn't clear what caused the wreck. 

Crews shut down Rim Road between Castle Falls Circle and Gooden Drive for about five hours while investigating the crash.
