LINDEN, N.C. — A Linden man was killed and two others were wounded late Tuesday in a shooting at a home, Cumberland County authorities said.

Dwayne Larry Sawyer, 27, of Colliers Chapel Church Road, was inside a home on Durant Nixon Road in Linden when he was shot at about 11 p.m.

According to investigators, the person responsible for the shooting opened fire through the front door of the home. They say the shooter knew the victims, but they haven't released any details on a possible motive.

About a dozen bullet holes could be seen Wednesday morning in the front door, a nearby window and a shutter between the two.

"It was blood, a whole lot of blood on the walls," neighbor Boris Hart said. "Once I walked in, I saw them on the ground. I tried to keep my composure. I saw them, I said, 'That could have been me.'"

Dominique Wiley, 22, who moved into the home where the shooting occurred only a week ago, and Darius Elliot, 33, were wounded and taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Hart's mother said she heard a series of gunshots and initially thought someone was shooting in the woods nearby. Then she turned on her back porch light and saw a shadowy figure in her yard.

"A person was walking, like, back behind my barn coming up this way in my yard and going out there to the pond," Willa Hart said. "I noticed that there was a car – vehicles – out there waiting on the person, and that person jumped in the car, and I hollered out, 'I'm going to call the police.'"

Authorities were searching for Roderick Nathaniel Davis, 32, of 230 Prospect Church Road in Erwin. Davis is wanted for questioning only, authorities said.

Davis was last seen driving a gray Chrysler PT Cruiser or Chevrolet HHR. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown eyes and long black dreadlocks.

Anyone with information on Davis' whereabouts is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office at 910-323-1500.
