One killed, one injured in shooting at Wilson park

A 20-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old man was injured Tuesday night in a shooting at Freeman Street Park in Wilson, police said.

WILSON, N.C. — A 20-year-old man was killed and another man was injured Tuesday night in a shooting at Freeman Street Park in Wilson, police said Wednesday.

Officers responding to reports of gunshots at 300 Freeman St. around 10 p.m. found Estevan Martinez, of 1210 Woodward Ave., dead at the scene.

Douglas Castro Medina, 18, of 910 Wainwright Ave., suffered minor injuries in the shooting.

The two men had been at the park with friends.

Investigators spent most of Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at the crime scene and expanded it Wednesday afternoon after finding shell casings outside the park.

Police have not made arrests or released any information about a possible motive.
