One killed in Southern Pines wreck

A Greenville man was killed late Thursday when his SUV ran off the road in Southern Pines and flipped, police said.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A Greenville man was killed late Thursday when his SUV ran off the road in Southern Pines and flipped, police said.

Timothy Lee Ford, 60, was northbound on U.S. Highway 1 when his 2000 Lincoln SUV ran off the road, struck a culvert and flipped four times before coming to rest in the median, police said.

The wreck occurred at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday between the West Pennsylvania Avenue overpass and the Midland Road exit, and U.S. 1 was closed in both directions for about three hours, police said.

The Southern Pines Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the wreck. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the department at 910-692-2732.
