One killed in Roanoke Rapids house fire

— One person was killed early Tuesday when a home on Gum Chapel Road in Roanoke Rapids caught fire, officials said. 

Fire crews responded to the home, which is off N.C. Highway 158 west of downtown Roanoke Rapids, at about 6 a.m. The cause of the fire was unclear. 

Authorities did not release information about the person killed in the blaze.
