One killed in Raleigh moped accident

​Authorities said one person was killed in an accident involving a moped on U.S. Highway 401 and Mechanical Boulevard in Raleigh Friday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities said one person was killed in an accident involving a moped on Fayetteville Road and Mechanical Boulevard around 2 p.m. in Raleigh Friday afternoon.

The driver of the moped, Johnny Ray McDonald, 54, struck a utility pole after drifting off of the pavement in the 3800 block of Fayetteville Road, officials said.

Authorities said McDonald was transported to WakeMed and later died from the injuries sustained in the collision.

No further information has been released. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
