One killed in Orange County wreck

— One person was killed Friday morning is a single-vehicle wreck, authorities said.

A car traveling on Chestnut Ridge Church Road from Buckhorn Road went off the road to the right and slammed into several trees shortly before 8 a.m., according to the State Highway Patrol.

Driver Anne Wintermute, 65, of Efland, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car.

Authorities haven't yet determined the cause of the wreck.

    This is out in the N. Orange County countryside and I'm guessing a deer situation that caused Annie to leave the road..so sad!

    I worked with Annie several years ago and even though we didn't talk much after that, I'm glad I got to see her just a few weeks ago. I miss her already.

    I worked with Annie and she was always a bright and colorful presence around the office. She liked to share her wind-up toys for each holiday/season, which could bring a smile to anyone's face. Her smile and warm disposition will truly be missed around here. Condolences go out to her family and friends.
