One killed in Clayton car accident

Posted July 16, 2014

— An 86-year-old Clayton woman was killed Wednesday after an early morning vehicle accident.

Ruby Lee Walters, of 303 Dairy Road, was a passenger in a car driven by Sandra Lee Culhane, 67, when Culhane failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a drainage ditch at the intersection of Barber Mill Road and Dairy Road at around 7 a.m., Clayton police said.

Walters died at WakeMed. Culhane was being treated at the hospital and is expected to recover.

Charges are pending against Culhane, police said.

Wow. I passed this accident coming out of my neighborhood on the way to work yesterday. It didn't look bad enough for someone to have died but you never know i guess. This woman literally lived 1 minute away from me. So sad. May she rest in peace.

That's the picture you want to put up for an article reporting a death? Might want to rethink that WRAL. I think you could come up with something a little less insensitive.

Awww, I'm so sorry you called this an accident. Charges pending and failure to stop for a stop sign are just two reasons "accident" does not belong in the title of this article.

You insult victims of wrecks and don't help prevent wrecks when you infer that wrecks are unavoidable. Most wrecks are avoidable by simply following the rules of the road and paying attention.

Was the passenger that died wearing a seat belt?

Awww, I'm so sorry. Prayers for the loved ones of the deceased and for the healing of the driver.
I almost went through a stop sign myself yesterday. The road just seemed to go on and on, and I simply didn't see it. Thank God I did though, because it was crossing a main secondary road that is often quite busy.
