— Police were on the scene of a shooting in the 100 block of Johnson Street near the basketball courts at the Pine Community Center Thursday night.

The victim, Gregory Cicero Brower, 22, of Carrboro, was shot in the chest at nearly 9 p.m. and transported to UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill police said. His condition was not available Friday, police said.

Authorities believe Brower was shot with a shotgun.

Authorities are looking for two suspects, who they have only identified as black males.

UNC was contacted in case the suspects showed up at the ER where the victim was. Protocol folks.

It was no where near campus.

I agree that its not THAT close to UNC... but a courtesy call was good.

"Near UNC?" This is over half a mile from the furthest corner of UNC's property. Would be more accurately reported as "near chronically crime-ridden Carrboro." There are really no surprises here. BTW - WRAL - your story says "in the 100 block of Johnson St" while your online map shows 400 Knolls St. Which is it?

not a surprise - johnson and nowell streets have been a problem back even in 1989. We used to live across the street on edwards street.... lots of late summer afternoons your cookouts would be punctuated by gunshots from that direction. The one and only time a gun was pulled on us in the middle of franklin street... I'll give you ONE guess as to where that person lived...
